We are a self-directed, peer-to-peer, learning community.

We Believe…

Each person has a gift that can change the world in a profound way.

A school should be a closely connected family of life-long learners.

Children are all unique and every child’s growth journey is different.

Launch - A socratic discussion to start each day. Through these discussions, we explore ethical dilemnas, practice active listening, critical thinking skills, developing our own opinions, and advocating for our beliefs.

Core Skills - Every morning, all learners spend about two hours on the core skills of reading, language arts, and math, through self-paced online learning curricula (older studios) or hands-on Montessori work (for the youngest studio).

Quest - The Acton schedule is broken down into 6 week sessions. Each session, students explore one theme-based Quest, which are interactive deep-dives into a certain topic that relates to a career or field of study. This Quest includes group projects and individual challenges that require self-directed research, hands-on projects and collaborative work. Some recent Quest themes include marine biology, architecture, and the stock market.

Guides - Each studio has one adult guide, who serve in a different capacity compared to a traditional teacher. The role of a guide is to encourage students to seek answers themselves, and support their self-discovery process. As we say at Acton, guides are not supposed to answer questions, but ask questions back.

Eagles - We call all students “Eagles”.

Studios - These are the equivalent of a traditional classroom, except they are mixed-aged workspaces.

Our Promise for Your Child

  1. Your child will love learning again.

  2. They will develop real-world skills, not just memorize facts.

  3. They will be challenged to think independently and solve meaningful problems.

  4. They will grow in character, resilience, and leadership.

  5. They will take ownership of their education and set their own goals.

  6. They will be prepared for the future—with confidence, purpose, and a love of lifelong learning.

Exhibition of Learning

At Acton Academy, learning isn’t measured by grades—it’s showcased in real-world experiences. Our Exhibitions of Learning replace traditional tests with dynamic, student-led presentations where young learners demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and personal growth.

Whether launching businesses, presenting scientific discoveries, or performing original works, students take ownership of their learning and share it with parents, peers, and the community.

These exhibitions challenge students to organize their work, articulate their ideas clearly, and build confidence in public speaking—essential skills for life. When children know their work matters, they rise to the challenge—building resilience, independence, and a love of lifelong learning.

Our Exhibitions are open to the public - come visit to see the magic in person!

Meet Our Guides

At Acton Academy, guides don’t lecture—they inspire. Instead of providing answers, they ask powerful questions, challenge students to think deeply, and empower them to take ownership of their own learning journey.
